(a song about a real spider in my window).

O Banana Spider
Where have you gone
You used to climb my window
All day long
You worked so hard to weave
such a intricate web
Now there’s just a bug there
Hangin’ by a thread
Banana Spider, white yellow and black
Shaped like an X with a mask on your back
You were high in your disguise.
Yet displayed in plain sight.
Spinning your wheels
always gathering food
I’ll never know how it feels
to be like you
O Banana Spider
Why did you decide
to settle down where I
could see you from inside
Was it the shining crystal
hanging from a silver thread
That drew you to my window
or was it me instead
Could you hear me….
from the other side of glass
Could you see me ……
(or just a mirror of grass?)
Oh Banana spider
you looked kinda creepy
the way you shed your skin
gave me eebie jeebies
Did you just one day die
Or did another shiny thing catch your eye
Were you lonely
Did you need a friend
Did it mean anything in the end?
Banana Spider
I’ll never know.
Why you climbed my window and I
I used to wonder why
you always wanted to go
About the Poem: The words are self explanatory, but I got used to seeing this spider for a summer and then one day he was just… gone! So, I grabbed my guitar and began to sing. I began to sing the opening line. It was catchy and made me and my husband laugh. After toying with the lyrics for a while, I kind of shelved the idea.
If you’d like to hear the original acoustic version of me and my guitar, I just published the old audio recording over on my Substack! Click here to listen
I am hoping my ensemble group for school will be performing a version of it for our November concert. So, stay tuned for the newest musical rendition!
