Strength in Silence

Not everyone needs to know everything about you. This is what I tell myself so that I don’t “over share”. I used to think that by sharing, I was becoming close to someone. That to bare my heart, and share my whole life story with someone would endear them to me and me to them.

But somehow, I would tell them everything that was wrong with me, or with my life, and then wonder why they never wanted to hang out with me again. These are some of the little things we were not told when we were young, that it’s better not to do. But I learned this by trial and error, from experience.

People can only carry their own small load. If they take on yours too, (I’m speaking of “mine too”) it would be too heavy for them.

Just to clear up the question you may be asking “what’s wrong with your life,” There is nothing wrong, or going on that is any different from anyone else’s life. Sure the details may be different but we each have similar trials at different phases of life. Some are physical challenges, such as weak and worn down knees, or other aches and pains. Or it could be worry over children, or things that they have gone through in the past.

We have to make peace with our past. We can’t worry about what someone else thinks of us. Or if we do worry, be honest about it to ourselves and ask, “why should I care?”

Today, my life is more peaceful, and filled with more stability than in my past. My past was marked by living in a dysfunctional home, carrying the burdens of trying to change others, when that is not what God called us to. We may think we can even change ourselves. But I truly believe that it is the power of the love the word of God and his working in our lives that changes us…that will leads guide and directs our lives if we simply ask.
