February Inspiration for Home

February is such a beautiful month. It is the month of love, of Valentine’s, of loved one’s birthdays. It is full of hopes and dreams for the new year, and seasons of love. With February comes another reason to celebrate, to show someone we care, and maybe even to change up the decor!

A plethora of beauty and graceful printed fabric samples I ordered from Meg Morton Fabric in UK has given me some inspiration for the type of mood I wanted to create. Occasions like birthday’s and Valentine’s day are the perfect excuse to brush up on calligraphy skills. Hearts of varying sizes were cut from small pieces of colorful scrap leather.

Bunnies are for any person, at any age, any season of the year.

This Maileg bunny was a gift from my daughter. She wears a cranberry and cream vintage handmade crochet dress that someone in my family made many years ago.

The pillow behind her is a specialty too! It belonged to Mimi my paternal grandmother. It seems to be the perfect backdrop for so many things. I think Mimi bought this while in her college days to set up her bedroom. I read about it in a diary that she left behind. I’ll never really know if this is the exact one, but it sounds like her description of a pillow that she bought. So, I like to think so!!💕🎀

Fabrics have always been fascinating to me.  One of my favorite ever vintage inspired clothing and fabric companies is called Cabbages and Roses. Below are some of their designs samples arranged with some antique doilies under the glass of a tea tray.

I found this pillow in a local quilt shop. The owner travels to UK to visit family and to hunt for vintage finds. She brought back this hand made vintage cabbage rose pillow from Scotland.  And sure enough, it came home with me.

February is also a great time to give the gift of art. We attended a Valentine themed art party, where we each got to paint miniature canvas painting and give them as gifts.

These are some that my daughter painted for me as a sweet, lovely Valentine present!

Sewing a heart out of linen and stuffing it with lavender petals is can also be a relaxing thing to do in an afternoon. It might just make someone’s day!

February is a time to take down some classics from the bookshelf, read some poetry or a favorite romance and fall in love with it again; Or display books in a creative way, giving a splash of berry pink to any room!

February is a perfect time to go out somewhere special, wearing your best perfume and cutest outfit! Attend a concert for a string quartet. This was one of the greatest highlights we experienced last February as the Danish String Quartet came to town.
